Wing Flap Mechanism

As part of our 'Introduction to Aerospace Engineering Design' course (AER404), we were tasked with designing a prototype wing flap actuation mechanism for a slotted flap. A three point synthesis using fixed anchor points was selected to ensure the mounting points were within the profile of the wing. Fixed points were included for the trailing edge of the wing at 0%, 50%, and 100% deployments, which were used to generate the four bar linkage. A six bar linkage synthesis was attempted to more closely approximate the desired circular arc paths for both control points, however it was unsuccessful given the time frame of the project and computational resources available. My role for the project included all the CAD models, the linkage synthesis, and the modeling performed to ensure the linkage members would not fail under their design loadings.
